Surdos
Surdo. Brazilian drum
Discover the batucada surdos . The largest Brazilian percussion instruments. We offer a wide selection of surdos from renowned brands such as Timbra , Izzo and Contemporânea . Find the size you need: short surdos are usually between 30 and 45 cm long (typical height for surdos from Bahia), while long surdos reach approximately 50 and 55 cm (typical height for surdos from Rio de Janeiro).
Larger diameter surdos are ideal for lower pitches, while smaller diameter surdos are ideal for higher pitches. If you are looking for a marking or fundo surdo, the most common options range from 20" to 26", with the larger sizes producing the lowest sounds. The 20" surdo is often used as a third surdo, although it can also be used as a marking when smaller surdos are used. Third, cut, or dobra surdos are often more compact, with sizes of 16", 18", 20", and 22", and even 12" or 14".
For those who prefer a lighter surdo, either for comfort or back problems, the light ranges from Izzo and Contemporânea are an excellent choice, as they weigh considerably less than the regular or high-end models. We also offer the possibility of custom-made handcrafted surdos, which combine lightness with exceptional quality.
