Alfaias
The alfaia is a traditional percussion instrument for playing maracatu and coco . It is also commonly known as the maracatu bass drum. It is made from a wooden shell with goatskin drumheads attached and is stretched with a rope that passes through the upper and lower hoops. The word alfaia comes from the Portuguese "Alfaiate", which translates as "tailor", due to the type of rope tensioning.
At Percuforum we offer the most economical option of sending the alfaia disassembled so that the instrument is cheaper. Currently we only do this with Recife alfaias.
