Surdos

Surdo instrument

The largest Brazilian percussion instruments. We have a wide range of surdos Timbra , Izzo , Contemporanea, Meinl , etc. Choose the size you need. The short surdos measure approximately 40 or 45 cm long and the long ones approximately 50 or 55 cm.

Larger surdos are usually used for lower pitches, and smaller surdos are used for higher pitches. If you are looking for a marking or fundo surdo, you will generally be able to choose between 20" and 24", with the larger sizes being the low markings. (The 20" surdo is often used as a third surdo, and sometimes as a marking when other surdos are smaller.) Third, cut, or double surdos are usually smaller (typically 16", 18", or 20", although 12" and 14" are also seen).

If you have back problems or simply don't want the surdo to be too heavy, you can opt for the light ranges from Izzo or Contemporânea which weigh much less than their regular or high-end counterparts. Another option is to order a handmade Tito Puig surdo which is also quite light and maintains a great quality.
